Yachting Vacations Flotilla to St. Petersburg, May 19 -26, 2012

When talking to our Bareboat ASA 104 graduates, many of them do not feel very comfortable to charter a yacht right away and would feel more confident if they were not sailing alone on their first bareboating adventures.

In order to help these sailors to become more confident, we are organizing a one-week flotilla from our Burnt Store Marina base in Punta Gorda to St. Petersburg and back.

Guided by an experienced flotilla leader and ASA instructor, participants will skipper their own boats or yachts chartered from Yachting Vacations.

Participants can arrive on Saturday, May 19th, in the early afternoon.
We will get them settled on their yachts, go through the yacht and chart orientation and then head for Pelican Bay, where we will drop the hook for the night.

The following morning, we will make our way through Boca Grande Pass into the Gulf of Mexico and sail north to Venice where we will be spending the night at the Crow's Nest Marina, which has a highly rated restaurant. You can also use the marina bicycles and pedal to downtown Venice with its many bars and restaurants.

On Monday, May 21st, we will get back into the Gulf of Mexico, sail around Anna Maria Island into Tampa Bay and navigate our way up the Manatee river to Palmetto Point Marina where we will spend the night. The marina has a great bar and excellent restaurant.

On Tuesday, we sail in Tampa Bay, under the impressive Skyline bridge towards St. Pete where we will be docking at the Municipal Marina. Right outside the marina you will find the lovely waterfront parks of the city, many wonderful restaurants and bars as well as the Pier, the unique Salvador Dali Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts and the St. Petersburg Museum of History.

You can spend Wednesday discovering St. Pete or sail Tampa Bay alone or with other participants.

On Thursday, we will make our way back to Burnt Store Marina. Depending on weather conditions, we may venture inside the Intracoastal Waterway. We will spend the night at Marina Jack's in Sarasota, a very lively city with numerous excellent restaurants within walking distance.

On Friday morning, May 25th, we will have an early departure and will be heading back to Charlotte Harbor to anchor out for the night before making our way home to Burnt Store Marina on Saturday morning.

As with any sailing trips, the itinerary and program depend on weather conditions and may be subject to change.

Sales tax, fuel, docking fees, restaurants and provisioning are extra.
